RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITY

Every one of us experiences rights in the home, school, or workplace, as well as public places.

We all have someplace or point of reference where we usually spend our time. The place that is accessible to us usually has some freedom for us in one or more aspects. Thereby we all can experience the rights in the home or a work/school spot or some public place, accordingly and appropriately.

Along with the Rights, there comes Responsibility, which is forgotten most of the time.

When we experience or enjoy some favor in something, we need to and we are expected to do something for it. So, whenever and wherever we claim the rights, there comes some responsibility along with it, which isn’t usually thought of and acted most of the time.

Responsibility is the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone.

Most of the time, responsibility is usually thought in synonymy with the position we hold, the role we play, or the hierarchy we are. But responsibility is the actions we do, based on the role or position or hierarchy. It is a state or fact of having and carrying out duties to deal with something we are obliged to. Also having control over someone we are accountable and who is accountable to us, is responsibility.

It is state or fact of being accountable or to blame/take the blame for something

Sometimes we just consider and get content after segregating and delegating something to someone. But responsibility is not just delegation but it is something to take care that everything goes on well, facing the struggles, fulfilling the requirements, and achieving the desired Goal. It is the fact of being accountable for the things that were given to us or taken by us, by blaming the wrong/ taking the blame for something wrong.

THE WORLD AROUND US

The World around us has both living and non-living beings. Living beings depend on other living things/non-living things.

We, as human beings, even other living, and non-living beings depend on one another in one way or the other directly or indirectly for survival. If we carefully analyze even a non-living thing, it needs something for its existence in the state it exists. And every living being depends on a non-living thing or another living thing.

People are only resources who could communicate and relate in an effective way, as well as manage everything in the world.

In the marvelous world with all its magnificence, People are the only resources who could communicate and relate in a much effective way due to the systems we had made around ourselves and for ourselves. Human beings are only one who is much intellectual among every other living being to manage everything in the world in a better way.

But people in today’s world became so selfish and utilized the resources very inappropriately.

Though human beings are highly intellectual and capable in many aspects, the values and the thoughts of people vary from person to person. People in today’s world became very much selfish with the weird desires that they utilize the resources in an inappropriate way which causes much chaos and bias.

Many people accumulate things and search for something new and they never find the happiness of being content and joy of giving. 

Due to selfishness among human beings, people accumulate things for themselves and search for something new every day in everything they come across. People don’t realize that there isn’t happiness in accumulation and they do realize that only when they are at stake, end of life. And the selfish people never find the happiness of being content and the joy in giving to others.

WHAT IS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

Social responsibility is an ethical framework for an entity, be it an organization or individual. It has an obligation to act for the benefit of society at large. 

Every one of us has our responsibility depending on our family, School/Work, Friendship, etc. Social responsibility is not a compulsion but it’s a need and an ethical framework that makes an entity for acting something for the cause of others through which we ourselves are benefited directly or indirectly. It suggests an organization or individual for acting for the benefit of society to a greater extent, realizing an obligation.

Social responsibility is a duty for every individual to perform to maintain a balance between the economy and the ecosystem.

Social responsibility is thought of as an option by most of us, but it is a necessity. Only when we realize that social responsibility is a duty for each one of us that is to be performed based on their interests and social needs, we would be able to balance between the economy and the ecosystem. Or else there will be many advances in the economy at some point that will be unworthy to compensate for the damage caused in the ecosystem.

It is morally binding and suggests that each person acts in such a way that minimizes the adverse effect on those immediately around them.

People are highly interlinked with one another and the environment. Everything we make using our creativity and innovation will be for the glory of the self or admiration and usefulness of other people. A person who wants to gratify the self doesn’t care about the least privileged and just exploit them. Social responsibility alone helps us to be morally binding and helps each one of us to act in a way that minimizes the harmful effects on those around us.

It is a commitment everyone should have towards society – contributing to social, cultural, and ecological causes. 

Social responsibility is not an onetime process or a short time activity. It needs to be in the attitude of each and every one of us, being a part of our society who enjoys all the favor in it. It is a commitment that everyone needs to have towards our society so that we can contribute something positive towards social, cultural, or ecological problems.

WHY WE NEED SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

A human being is a social being and they are dependent on immaterial things like life, emotions, etc.

There is none in the world who can say that they will be independent and live a lonely life throughout the entire span of their life. We as human beings are social beings who are much dependent on one another for all our needs at least at some points of life and at least for all our immaterial needs such as showing our emotions. So we need one another for healthy survival and thereby need social responsibility too.

Human beings are also dependent on easy access to material things like food, dressing, land, etc.

All of us are not only dependent on one another for sharing our emotional needs but also dependent on one another for the much easier access to Material things like food- which is got through the known or unknown farmer, dress- which is got through the known or unknown weaver and a house that is built through the known or unknown builder and so on. So we need to be socially responsible towards one another.

We are very much integrated and we are responsible to give what we have received at different points for a complete life.

Whether we pay for something or we get it free of cost, we all are much connected with one another with a strong integration professionally or personally. So we are responsible to give something in return for what we have received at different points of life for a complete and content life.

TO WHOM WE ARE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE?

We are socially responsible for everyone and everything in our own environment.

As we are an integral part of many things in our environment, we enjoy many products that are derived out of it. Therefore we are equally and socially responsible towards every fellow human being who is a co-partner in producing or enjoying the products. We are responsible for everything in our own environment as it helps in the survival and welfare of one another.

At first, it is our family members, friends, relatives, neighbors, classmates/ colleagues who play an important role by directly and visibly involved in our life.

When a person is not able to relate and be responsible to the people who are closely related, the person could not relate and be responsible to others outside. If the person tries to do it, (s) he will not be able to pursue it. So at the foremost, it is our responsibility to be responsible to our family, friends, relatives, associates who are closely integrated with our lives and play a very important role directly and visibly, by involving in our life. 

It could be extended to the farmer who produces our food, the weaver who produces our clothes, the trees that give us air, the ponds that give us water and every third person/thing, involving indirectly or just by being in this world we live. 

We all experience certain things that are free but valuable for survival. As it is free, we easily forget the value of those things and give less care to protect it and prevent the hazards because of lack of it. We are socially responsible for everything we use and come across directly or indirectly, as we are involved in it. Though we don’t know who is actually producing our food, we are able to get it. If there is no producer, there will not be a product at all and we wouldn’t be able to get the food at any cost. Though we don’t see the weaver who produces our clothes, we could be covered beautifully only because of them. The trees that give air to breathe and the ponds that give water to drink and every third person or a thing that involves indirectly for our benefit by just being in the world we live need to be considered with care, having the commitment of responsibility.

WHERE WE ARE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE?            

We are responsible for our Family and home.

The Family is the first set of people who are involved in the making of a person. The home is the first and best place in all our lives where we will be much free to do whatever we desire to do with a feeling of being comfortable. So we are responsible for and in our family as well as home.

We are responsible for our School/ College/ Workplace.

The place where much of our time is spent other than the home could be School/College/Work spot based on what we are involved at a particular moment of life. So we need to be responsible for those places for a positive outcome and benefit without compromising the values and virtues.

We are responsible for our Society.

Many things including the home and School/College/Workplace comes under our society and it helps us to have access to all our needs in a much approachable and appropriate manner. So we are responsible for everyone and everything in the Society.

We are responsible for our Street/City/District/ State/ Country.

Society can be a group of people from a street, city, district, state or nation or even any other group of individuals, it should not be limited just to the people with whom we are comfortable. We need to be responsible for the street where we live as our home is in it, we need to be responsible to the City or the state or the Country as we enjoy the rights and privileges in its constitution and administration.

We are responsible for\ our environment and the entire world. 

At a larger scale, we all live on the earth which needs to be taken care of in a proper and sustainable manner for the welfare of one another. One person’s mistake that affects the planet could risk the lives of everyone who exists on earth, at the present and future time. We need to be responsible in the smallest part of the environment always and to the entire world when it is possible or needed.

WHEN WE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO SOCIETY?

We should be responsible for our family, friends, relatives, school/ college/ workplace, and everyone/thing closely associated at all times.

We usually share and contribute our material and immaterial things with the people where we are close and comfortable with. So there need not be any special time to show our responsibility in the family, a circle of friends or relatives, School or College or Workplace. We need to be always responsible for the closest people.

We should be responsible for our society/street/country, environment, third persons, etc. at least when there is a serious crisis/natural disaster, though it may not be possible every time.

We need to be responsible for all the things or people around us at all times whether we are closely related or not, just because they are part of our own earth, in which we live. But it may not be possible at all times as we are held with our own personal duties, so we can be responsible for our society or street or country or environment or third person, at least during the serious problems or intolerable natural disaster.

HOW WE CAN BE RESPONSIBLE TO SOCIETY?

FAMILY/FRIENDS/RELATIVES:

Ø We should help our Parents/Relatives in the household works and Siblings/Friends in their studies or work, etc.

Most of us just want our parents or relatives to support us in all that we are not able to do by ourselves, but mostly we do not support them in what they do, for giving us a good environment. We shall help them in the household works as we take benefits from them. We can also be responsible for the friends or siblings to develop themselves by helping in their studies or some other things.

Ø We should emotionally support by loving, caring, encouraging, giving ideas, etc. when needed

Friends, Family, and Relatives are the people with whom we are associated with sharing different things. We are loved and taken care of by them and we need to give the same to them when they need it. Most of the time we want so many people to admire or follow us, leaving aside the real relationships who could ever come along. We need to emotionally and socially support the closed ones with love, care, encouragement, solutions at the needed times.

Ø We should share our belongings when the beloved people around us need it.

When there is a real concern and a good relationship with the people around us, we will not mind or be concerned about any other thing. As a person who is responsible, we will share our belongings with the beloved people who is in need, spontaneously.

Ø We should correct our parents/friends/ relatives through the Values that are Ethical and Moral when they try to act something that is not right and acceptable.

Everyone makes mistakes either knowingly or unknowingly. So it’s not a requirement that we need to agree and fall in line with whatever others say whoever it might be. It’s much necessary to correct our parents or friends or relatives whenever the Values aren’t ethical and moral. We are responsible to make sure that they are right and acceptable in their actions and thoughts.

SCHOOL/COLLEGE/WORKPLACE, SOCIETY, COUNTRY:

Ø We should reach school/college/workplace in time and leave in time. We should follow the rules and regulations of the public place to support them, as we had agreed to it before entering it.

Everyone is part of a school or College or Workplace in accordance with the moment of life. We should be responsible in those places as we are benefited from a cause and we benefit the place at times. We need to keep time, to be punctual by being in at right time and also being out at the right time for efficiently managing our time, as well as being responsible to one another. We had also agreed to abide by its rules while joining the place, so we need to follow and obey it to support, for a systematic environment.

Ø We should accept everyone, support one another, encourage one another and we should respect our elders.

There are always variations in the midst of us in public places when we come together for a purpose. For being responsible to one another we need to accept everyone at first. At times we need to support or encourage one another, and we need to show regard and respect to one another, especially to the seniors and the elders.

Ø We should follow things that have Ethical and Moral values.

Even if the people around or an entity violates the ethics and morals of the basic instinct, we need to always stand for what is right and be responsible for leading others on the right path.

Ø We should handle the Public properties with care as we handle our Private Properties.

Ø Every one handles the own things with special care for retaining it for a longer time and has less care or no care for the public properties. We should be responsible for handling things, the way it needs to be handled in spite of whether it is private or public property.

Ø We should fulfill our responsibilities, wherever we are and whatever we had agreed to do.

Ø All of us usually do not think much, when we are given some responsibility in common and simply agree to it as it is. Whenever we agree to something that is given either individually or as a group, we are responsible for fulfilling it at any cost. 

Ø We should be innovative and contribute to the growth of our nation.

Responsibility is not just doing something repetitively and that is put on our head. We can be innovative by trying something new and different and contribute to the growth by doing something better than what is expected, with real concern towards one another.

Ø We should help the people in need to help themselves.  If we are not helping others, we should not be a hindrance at least.

There are always the least privileged people around us due to various personnel or social reasons. We are responsible for one another and we can help those in need to come up themselves and meet their own needs. If we are not willing or helping the needy people, we should not be a hindrance to them at least.

Ø We should not waste our time and be modest in our dressing, attitude, and behavior.

All of us are stewards to ourselves. We know and we decide how we are going to spend our time though there is a little influence because of the situation. We should be responsible for how we use our time. Also, we need to be modest and be respectable in the way we think, the way we dress, and the way we act, for showing and taking our responsibility.

ENVIRONMENT/ ECOSYSTEM/ NATURE:

Ø We should manage the wastes securely with proper waste management systems for Medical wastes, Biodegradable wastes, and Non- Biodegradable wastes.

Most of us spill or throw things as it is, without thinking that it will be dumped in an inappropriate place if no one is going to take responsibility for discarding it. We need to be responsible for our environment and discard the different wastes in an appropriate way in an appropriate place.

Ø We should protect the land around us through proper use of it and using natural agents.

Today, people had demolished and devastated many of the natural habitats for digging out minerals, building out constructions, using synthetically non-degradable chemicals, etc.  The land we have sheltered us helps us to produce food and we need to be responsible for it by protecting it and properly using it with the natural agents.

Ø We should protect the air around us from pollution.

People easily destroy the trees for producing papers, furniture, or shelters generally. And most of the time we don’t realize the cost of its destruction and effort involved in producing it again. We are responsible for it as we get air from it. Also, we need to protect the air by preventing it from the release of manmade pollutants into the environment.

Ø We should reduce the usage of non-renewable sources of energy to the maximum and use Renewable sources of Energy.

The earth is not a place where every material gets replaced with the same suddenly and spontaneously. So when the material is used, it is done and it takes enormously large time for its replacement. So, it’s always necessary and good to use much of the renewable sources in place of non-renewable sources of energy for longer sustenance and showing our responsibility.

Ø We should avoid cutting trees and Plant more trees.

As stewards and partakers in the environment, we need to be responsible for everything in it. We have to find some alternatives instead of cutting or using trees and also we can be responsible for planting more trees for replacement when we cut out a single tree.

Ø We should have water bodies and avoid constructing unnecessary buildings and filling of lands for selfish purposes.

Most of the ecosystem is bedeviled by selfish or abnormal human activities which caused a big imbalance in the environment. We enjoy all the benefits of the environment and we need to protect the water bodies and avoid filling the low lands for the construction of buildings and avoid demolition of the living as well as non-living things.

Ø We should not disrupt the Ecosystem around us and help Nature to maintain its Balance.

We are responsible for all the things in the ecosystem and we are always responsible to help nature to maintain the balance of things as most of the things in the environment are altered by us in the process of innovating and using things. We are the foremost being who need to make sure and be responsible not to disrupt the Ecosystem.

RESULTS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO SOCIETY

The whole world will become a heavenly place when each one of us realizes our responsibilities towards other people and other living/non-living creatures around us.

People are responsible for both the major constructiveness as well as destructiveness in the whole world. If each one of us kills our selfishness and be concerned about others and our environment, showing our responsibility, then there will not be many social problems prevalent amongst us.

When we realize our Responsibility, Nature will have the balance and everyone will use their expertise/ knowledge/ experience for the Common Good of accommodation and not acquiring.

Most of the time we are self-dependent and use others for our benefit. When everyone realizes the responsibility for another, there will be equal sharing of the things from one another for a common good and there will be great balance and the distribution of the resources.

When we recognize our responsibility, ultimately our attitude and behavior get altered positively and we could kill our Selfishness which is the root cause of all problems.

The major root cause for all the problems is the pride and wanting to show the self, greater over everything. Only after recognizing and realizing the mortality of everything, we will be able to get rid of it. But recognizing our responsibility we can change our attitude and behavior positively by acknowledging one another.

When every one of us realizes our responsibility, we could enjoy our rights equally in spite of all our differences. 

The major reason for discrimination amongst us is exploitation and forbidding certain people to enjoy certain privileges. By being responsible, we can make ignorant people know their rights and help them to uphold it instead of exploiting them.

The wars will be ended and the fragrance of love and joy will be present all the time in all the places in all the people.

By being responsible over one another, we accept the differences and limitations, acknowledge each other’s strengths in the midst of many factors. There will be unity and harmony with one another by putting end to the wars and people will be enjoying the favor of one another with love and joy.
